I woke up yesterday morning and my baby was three months old. How did this happen already?! Seems like it was just yesterday that she was in diapers.
She weighed in at 12 pounds two ounces, which means she has doubled her birth weight. Crazy! She’s 23 inches long and her head is 16 inches around. Let’s hope she’s going to take after her dad in the height department. So far she’s short like me!
The physical changes are amazing:
four days old
She’s so happy and curious. She smiles ALL the time, but I am still getting her used to smiling when she sees my camera. For the last month, she has been sleeping so well that I haven’t wanted to say anything. She still goes to bed SO LATE. I don’t know how to fix it. But when she DOES finally fall asleep, she’s usually down for eight hours. I know, I know! Of course this week, she knew that Mike wouldn’t be home, so she decided to stay up until 1:00 am and then wake up throughout the night. So while I’m typing this, my eyes are literally crossing and my eyelids are heavy. SLEEP ANNABEL SLEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
I just typed dkjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjasf because I fell asleep with my hands on the keyboard. If that isn’t the true descriptive word for what it’s like to parent a three month old, I don’t know what is. Dkjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjasf, indeed.
I really need to figure out how to get this child to sleep normal hours.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far to our March for Maddie team for the March of Dimes. The big event is on Saturday, and we are excited to be the biggest family team again. If you would like to donate in Madeline’s name, please click here.

Good Luck!

It’s amazing how fast they change She is looking so sturdy! 8 hours is awesome…but so are nights alone with Mike. THis book was a LIFESAVER!!! http://www.amazon.com/Healthy-Sleep-Habits-Happy-Child/dp/0449004023/ref=cm_lmf_tit_2
It explains a little of the idea behind the importance of sleep and follows throughout different stages of childrens’ lives. There are stories shared from parents that are really helpful too. You don’t have to read the whole thing which is great too with tired eyes. Just the point at which Annabel is at.
She is sooooo cute!
Kristen says:
In a nutshell, the author says that babies really need to be back to sleep about 1 1/2 hours from waking with probably 2-3 naps during the day. I was a stickler for naps and stayed close to home with my boys. My second was easier with this routine but they both napped pretty well and were in bed for the night around 7 with an 11 and 5 nursing then up around 7 and nap again 9.
Good luck and have a great day tomorrow on the walk!!!

She is growing at the speed of lightning…
Beautiful baby…
I do feel for all the parents with sleeping problems. I feel that in our days (33 years ago) it was so much easier. We did not have babyfoons, we put them in their little bedroom, and we went downstairs, or in another room. The first 3 months they sleep through all the music and such, but from 3 months old, they recognize sounds too much and need a separate sleeping spot… Since we could only hear them when they were really crying, they had time to talk to themselves, or even be awake for a while without us jumping on every snort they make…. It was a lot easier. I feel that moms now are slaves so to speak of the electrics they have now that are supposed to make life easier… I totally not get the co-sleeping theories that go round now… Call me old fashioned… ;o)))
Anyway, sleeping or not, Annie is blossoming… Well done

Also, I’m jealous of Annabel’s sleep. Nellie has slept for 7 hours once. Normally, it’s 4 hours, wake up to eat, back down for 4 hours. Which isn’t BAD, but a solid 8 would be better.
Also? Annabel is a-freaking-dorable.

hmmm sleep.. Sledge hammer, nyquill both work wonders.. lol i’m kidding.. We lucked out and ours just started sleeping through the night around 3 months, but we also got him into a routine early. If he’s ready to go down or not he gets put in his room and in his crib by 8pm. It was also around 3 months he was outgrowing the cradle in our room anyways and time to move up to his crib in his own room. He may lay there babbeling to his binky for an hour and staring at his mobile, but most the times now when he hits his crib he knows its time to sleep and doesn’t take to long to sleep. Course even now at 8 months he still will have a night or two where he wakes up 3-4 times during the night fussing or having deep long conversations with his binky or his friend bob we can’t figure out which unless we go up make sure he’s covered and plug his binky back into his mouth.

She’s amazing! What a beautiful child! Seeing these pictures is the perfect way to end the week! Actually, Friday is always bittersweet now because of you, Heather. I miss your blog on the weekend but I totally get that you need a break! Just wanted you to know how much I look forward to reading it. Good luck with the walk this weekend. Our walk is the following weekend. We’ll be thinking of you and sweet, sweet Maddie both weekends! Actually, I’m so bummed because my daughter and I are flying to L.A. tomorrow but we will miss walking with you by mere hours! As for the sleep thing, there are a lot of great books out there. I’d suggest reading a few and finding the one that works for your schedule. The one that worked best for us was “The Baby Sleep Solution” by Suzy Giordano. A big part of her book talks about the importance of coordinating feeding intervals with the sleep schedule. She really stresses that babies need to be at 24oz or more of food a day before they can sleep through the night. I started doing the steps and then almost like magic my daughter started sleeping through the night (11-12 hours!) when she hit 24oz of food. I couldn’t believe it! Have a great weekend!

I think it will be funny when she’s 8 months and you are trying to take a pic with the blocks while she is trying to knock them off the second you put them up!
As for sleep, knowledge is your power. Don’t try and just create something…so many mothers have gone before you and have lots of tricks to help! Barnes and Noble can be your friend! Here are a few of my favorites:

Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child

i wish we’d thought to take pictures of the wonder twins in the same spot on the same day of each month to really track their growth so well. alas, we just pointed and clicked whenever they were being cute (which is often), but still…it’s harder to see that progression from infant to toddler.

Jamie says:
Not sure if someone has already recommended this but “On Becoming Babywise” is the best book EVER! I have a 6 year old now who didn’t sleep through the night until he was around 2-3 years old. When I got pregnant, I immediately started looking for ways on figuring out my new baby’s sleep patterns. This book is my lifeline! My baby arrived December 4th. He has been sleeping through the night since he was about 12 weeks old or so. I have never met a babywise parent that was not satisfied with this. And, you can start at anytime. So, I suggest grabbing yourself a copy. Sleep is just around the corner!! Guaranteed! It all makes sense too. It’s kind of like, oh, why didn’t I think of that! lol I found mine on Amazon, used, for a couple dollars.
Happy sleeping!
P/S: Annabel is BEA—UUUU—TI-FULLLL!

I love how in the 3-month picture she has finally outgrown the doll and is just kind of kicking back, chilling. She looks like she’s saying, “That’s right, Mom- I’m three months. Would you mind passing the remote?”
As far as the sleep, not sure if you’re looking for suggestions, but the Baby Whisperer worked great for us. It involves scheduling, but not cry it out. It’s hard work, but so, so worth it. Although when my daughter was six weeks old I thought I was going to die, by nine weeks, she was sleeping through the night using the BW techniques, and on a predictable schedule to boot!
See you tomorrow!

Vanessa Jordan says:
I am amazed at how much they change, and so quickly. If your like me, I was stunned at how quick my Jada wasn’t a newborn baby anymore, crazy!
You have the same problem that I had with Jada, little Raina slept from the get go, If I went to bed at 10pm she did too, and would be asleep in seconds, Jada WOW!! I would be rocking and pulling my hair out at 3am, she stayed that way, there’s nothing that I found to work. Now at the ripe old age of 3, she is going to bed at 10:30pm, her energy level is so different than Raina’s. Raina plays for 30 mins if were lucky and here she comes, ready to come in the house. Jada since its been getting warm, I’m telling you the kid would not stop playing outside to eat or anything, if we didn’t make her, so now if she gets a lot of play time, she is wore out and asleep at 10:30pm!!! Thank goodness! Mom was running short on fuel and no sleep! So this is now amazing that they are asleep that early and I can actually have a couple of hours to do stuff around the house!! Take care guys, hugs from Ky!!!!!

She really does keep getting more beautiful! I knew it! … I am really sorry about the no sleep thing. The only suggestion I have is one that I am a little reluctant to give because I never wanted to do it myself (the worry-wart in me..), but when I was a nanny the family I worked for used to put the baby in her car seat and put that on top of the dryer and turn it on when she was not sleeping or fussy. They said it worked. I was too worried to do that so I can’t promise that it worked since I never did it, but that’s what they said. I guess you could camp out by your dryer and then ‘no worries’. I hope you can get some sleep soon! (((hugs)))

For me establishing a bedtime routine has worked like a charm to get my son to sleep at a reasonable hour, and we started when he was about three months old. At that age, we took a walk, bath, bottle, and bed. He was so exhausted by the end of that he would be asleep. Gradually he got used to being put in his crib awake because he knew to expect bedtime after his bath. He is almost two now and it still works. Good luck!
