The time when she is sleeping is my time. It’s when I am to return emails, make phone calls, and write.
I have laundry to fold, dishes to wash, and kitchens to clean. I need to relax, I need to eat, I need to think about myself for a minute.
But I get distracted by this little person next to me, who has decided that the only! way! she can sleep! is on her tummy!
She moves in her sleep like a sleepwalker. Or a zombie.
So while she sleeps, I trim her nails, and hold her hand, and watch her body rise and fall.
I can’t wait for her to wake up.
EmmieJ says:
Rise and fall. Watching it now. Just…yes. And I can not wait to see you this week.
Deer Baby says:
Love that picture of her asleep but with her head up. Like a cute little mole.
Like your new look!
Kate @ UpsideBackwards says:
Awwww, how could you *not* just watch her?! She’s soooo gorgeous. I would never get anything done, either. Love to you!
Erica says:
Hi Heather,
What a great post and the photos of your Amazing Annie are just adorable. You have just described my own situation, I have so much to do during naptime and should be getting on with all the household chores and my to-do list but when I finally get both toddler and baby to nap I end up wathing them sleep instead. Then I run round like a madwomen in the evening when my toddler is in bed and my husband is holding the baby. Every evening I tell myself tomorrow will be different!! There is just something so special about watching a sleeping baby.
I love your new design by the way, very fancy.
Sending you lots of love from afar
Erica
Karla says:
Precious moments. My 10-mo old just fell back to sleep in my arms – so hard to put her down just to go shower for work. (5am in MN) Just had to say…don’t you LOVE those PJs from Target? Perfect for summer and I dig the zipper. Great updates to the site!
Lynn from For Love or Funny says:
I can totally relate. My husband and I use to laugh at how much we’d stare at our babies while they slept!
I like the new “interior design” for your site!
Amanda says:
Sounds to me like your spending the time in just about the most perfect way possible. The rest’ll wait. Might I offer to hold her for a moment in NYC while you scarf down some of those missed bites? Please?
jen says:
As always Annie is adorable. But i also wanted to comment on your great new design. Love it!
Amy says:
I love that she’ll just pass out on the couch like that! So sweet. Hope she’s feeling better!
Dee Dee says:
Love the new design! I sooo miss the days when we could watch the girls sleeping…
Karla says:
So perfect! My 5 mos old daughter immediately goes to her tummy to sleep too. Little stinkers!
Shelley says:
my kids were both tummy sleepers. it’s funny how they are adamant at the hospital that they NOT sleep like that. you can’t tell a baby what to do
she is so beautiful!!! such a sweetheart! i love to watch your updates on her growing up. my babies are 7 and nearly 3. they don’t sleep on their tummies anymore, i miss it.
Patti McKenna says:
So precious – and what a beautiful baby she is. Procrastination must be my middle name – I used to watch my four sleep and let everything else go. Now, it’s become a habit. Everything is still not getting done, but I’m not watching them sleep very much – I swear teenagers sleep more than infants. And, honestly, they’re not as cute!
Jen L. says:
The site looks great! Annie’s so precious. My son’s a tummy sleeper, too.
Patti McKenna says:
Tried to post and it disappeared.
She’s a beautiful baby – can’t blame you for staring at her!
I used to watch my four girls sleep. Now that they’re teens, they’re not as mesmerizing in their sleep. And I’m still not getting anything done!
Shannon Olgin says:
She is so adorable. And I love your new web design. I hope you have a great day today.

Fairly Odd Mother says:
Of all the adorable photos of her, these may be my favorite. I just LOVE those little baby legs in footed sleepers, and her sweaty sleepy head. Ahhhh, my ovaries!
Katie in WI says:
Babies in jammies…. it’s too much
Love the new look.
Hamelet's Mistress says:
LOVE the new look. Love it.
When and if I ever have a child, I won’t be able to get anything done either. I’ve waited for so long and it will still probably be a couple more years making me 34 or 35 when I finally have a baby. I won’t want to miss a second of anything. I hope I’ll have money enough for a housekeeper.
Maggie G says:
Oh my goodness those pictures are adorable! I can’t handle it!
Jen says:
Love the new look of the site! She’s just adorable!
Tiffany says:
Annie is gorgeous. I love her pj’s. May i ask where you got them?
Also, i love the new design.
Lisa says:
So many things to do while a baby sleeps and yet all we moms want to do is sit and watch them. Annie makes a beautiful sleeping baby, who can blame you for just sitting and watching her, its way better than laundry, eating, writing emails….
Love the redesign, it’s gorgeous.
Anjie says:
Beautiful baby girl. This post almost brought me to tears. Enjoy her while she’s that little because all too soon you’ll have a mouthy three year old on your hands. I love that picture of her lifting her head up while sleeping.
Nikki says:
LOVE LOVE LOVE the new site! How spiffy!
What a cutie! She manages to be adorable even when she sleeps! If I were you, I wouldn’t be able to resist waking her up!!
XOXO from GA,
Nikki
mel says:
Love the new digs! I absolutely love watching babies sleep. They are so warm and pink cheeked. Adorable.
The Suburban Housewife says:
My second daughter was like that too. She was not a good sleeper until she could roll herself to her tummy. Once she could do that, she was out for 12 hours each night.
Love the new site design!
colleen says:
I love the new site; reminds me of retro Bewitched or the Jetsons.
Jodie Brooks says:
She is so stinkin cute!!!
Casey says:
she’s a real cutie! it’s hard not to get distracted by a sleeping baby
on the tummy is the only way my babies ever slept, you’ll avoid more flat head that way since they move their heads more. I didn’t make them sleep that way to avoid that, they did it all on their own, I just noticed we never had flat head once here
Adara says:
love the new design!
AmazingGreis says:
Those pictures are precious. I love sleeping babies!! BTW, love the new design. So pretty!! Have a great time in NY. Will miss seeing you and so many others.

Sooo sweet!!! Love pictures of her sleeping!!! I’d have a hard time doing anything else when you could just sit and stare at sweet Annabel!!
Elizabeth says:
Absolutely precious!!!
By the way love the new look of the site!
Kathy says:
As it should be. You can eat, sleep, and bathe after she is grown. Enjoy this precious moment!
Mrs. Wilson says:
She is SO SWEET! And I totally agree – when my kids were babies I’d way rather just watch them sleep and look forward to them waking up than do any household stuff. It can wait.
Ashley says:
All the chores will still be there when she’s 15, I say take a break and enjoy her. What a cutie!
Snickrsnack Katie says:
Love the new look of the website!
I love the pics – I can totally understand wanting to just stare at her the entire time she sleeps. She is beautiful!
Kristi says:
Love those pictures! Annie is precious. I do the same thing with my daughter. In fact, I usually nap with her every chance I get because I know this time only lasts for a season. Someday, she’ll be a big girl who won’t be able to spend time snuggling with mommy for a nap. I love watching her sleep and seeing her sweet smile when she wakes up. My house suffers because of this but my heart is filled with joy.
Love the new look of the site.
Charlene says:
My only daughter is 8 years old and I still love to sit and watch her sleep. It is sooo relaxing!!
Krissa says:
I LOVE the new look!!!!! And the sweet photos. If I had a beautiful little baby, I’d be doing what you’re doing too. All other things can wait.
Rebecca says:
You mentioned trimming her nails while she sleeps and that reminded me of the movie Babies. Did you see that movie? In the beginning there is this mom who pulls out this HUGE knife (machete?) and shaves her newborns head bald! Just puts that sharp object on the head of a squirmy infant and shaves her head BALD! I remember saying to the girl next to me “And I was terrified to trim my kids nails!”
Trisha Vargas says:
Love the new look!
The last picture of Annie’s gorgeous dark hair is so sweet. I would just sit and watch her sleep too!
((((HUGS)))) from Florida
Heidy Martinez says:
I love it!!! As cute as she is I don’t think I would stop watching her sleep either. I used to love watching Xavier sleep just wondering what he was dreaming about. He will be 3 next month and I can still lay next to him and caress his hand and watch him sleep.
Momma Lioness Michele says:
These pics are so sweet – love love love the one where she is picking up her head while sleeping! It is so hard to get anything done when watching them in their sleep is much more fun.
Your new blog and twitter design are fabulous, too!
QCMAMA says:
OMG! Love your new design! It is so cute! I need to figure out how to make my blog better. And Annie is so cute! Love your pics. I wish I could spend a day with you taking pictures of everything. And I do the same thing when the baby is sleeping. I should be doing other things but am too busy cuddling my 2 year old who just doesn’t like to sit still enough for me to love on her anymore.
Angie [A Whole Lot of Nothing] says:
OH YES I will be nomming on those fingers.
Nicole says:

Love the new look! She is such a doll.
Vicky says:
Oh Heather I hope who ever found your computer sees all the precious moments on there and finds a way to return it.
I love the pics of Annie sleeping.
Jenifer says:
Oh my!! She is so adorable. My Amelia is just a week or so younger than Annie and I love watching her sleep. Last night I fed her and, after she was back asleep, went to the restroom. When I got back she had rolled onto her tummy and stolen my spot in bed and was still sound asleep, little stinker. I debated for a moment on whether it was worth it to move her and get back in bed or just curl up at the bottom of the bed with a blanket and watch her sleep. Aren’t little girls wonderful!!!
Glenda says:
She is absolutely adorable. Love all of the pictures. Love the new page setup.
Karen says:
The pictures of Annie are adorable! I love to watch my daughter sleep, it really is relaxing. By the way, I love the new layout!

Love the new layout too!
Anne DiNapoli says:
Love the pictures. Annie is beautiful! Sleeping babies are the cutest! Love your new blog design too.
Kelly says:
Children look so sweet and peaceful when they are sleeping….it must be natures way of preserving them for when they are being little demons when they are awake. Not that Annie would be a little demon…. talking about my own little hell raiser of course!
chrisie says:
So precious! I don’t blame you one bit!
Emily says:
She is beautiful! I also really like you new layout!
~Emily
Camie says:
You and Mike have such beautiful babies. It’s worsening my case of baby fever. . . I guess I’ll just have to look at this sweet face and sigh.
(I still have my fingers crossed for your laptop! Such an awful feeling. )
Fatmomma says:
Aweee! So Sweet! Like previously said, I see a very very strong resemblance, and I can ALLLLMOOOSSTTT smell that sweet baby smell! *Sigh* her photos make my uterus twitch!
Hopefully the (ahem) asshat that grabbed your laptop sees what incredible photographs and history you have on it and somewhere finds a concious and returns it to you!

Eric's Mommy says:
She is just absolutely adorable.
Love your new layout too
Erin says:
Absolutely beautiful. Your description and the pictures. Not to mention the adorable babe you have there.
Elle says:
I LOVE the last pic of Annie. I still watch my daughter while she’s sleeping…..at 15 months old. I hope in the next 25 years I can break the habit. I’m sure her hubby would be creeped out if he saw me standing over their bed watching her sleep.
MelissaG says:
LOVE the new look of your blog…very nice. I have got to be the world’s biggest procrastinator….it’s sick. Why do I work well under pressure, I hate it. But….I procrastinate about changing, so maybe someday?
Cute pictures! And the hair videos are really good, thanks!
MelissaG says:
p.s. You’ll be braiding Annie’s hair before you know it! That girl has a serious head of hair!
Elise says:
Aww, she is just so adorable, every little bit of her! Love your new blog design.
monica fox says:
I wish I lived near you so I could smother her with kisses. Or you guys could just have another one and I’ll adopt him/her. You really do have the cutest. baby. on. this. earth.
Judy says:
Oh Annie!! What I wouldn’t give to beable to sleep that sound. Love the new page design.
Marti from Michigan says:
Wow! I love your new page design!! Kinda miss the pictures of Maddie though, I used to look at them a lot.
Annie looks so adorable sound asleep, sweet baby girl. That’s a great time to trim the fingernails/toenails, no fussy baby to jump around and cause you to clip her skin, which is what I did numerous times! Finally I started trimming them in my daughter’s sleep as well.
The wonder of it all! Just this morning I went blueberry picking with my 35 year old adult daughter. I wish that for you in your way future with Annie.
Katrina says:
She’s adorable. All mine were tummy sleepers, too
Lisa @ Early Morning Run says:
oh my lord! she is so increadibly beautiful. How could someone not be distracted by that sweet adorable girl!?
Michelle W says:
She makes my heartache and question my decision to stop at 2 kids she is so beautiful and adorable. And your post so full of love, what a lucky lucky girl.
Michelle W says:
Heart ache, two separate words, wish there was an edit function after the fact!
Wendy says:
I’ve been reading for awhile, but have never posted. And this post is a little silly….but she has the most beautiful hair!
Expat Mom says:
That shot of her lifting her sleeping little head is just TOO CUTE for words!!!
Amanda M. says:
Pudge cheeks reach maximum cute when sleeping on tummies.
Debby Pucci says:
She is adorable. Let me just say that my children are grown and if I could do it over again (and my children are not giving me grandchildren) I would just sit there and stare at them all day long.
Jenn says:
She is soooo cute!!! I can’t believe how fast she is growing up!!!! What a blessing she is and what a blessing both you and Mike are for her as well.
Love,
Jenn
Karen says:
Sleeping babies are my favorite!
Loving the new layout.
Lisa_in_WI says:
Heather, I want to compliment you on your photos, particularly the ones of Annie and Madeline. They are so stunning! There’s another blog that I (don’t nearly as frequently) read — won’t name names — where the Mom so overprocesses the photos in Photoshop that her children look more like mannequins than real children.
If you do any kind of retouching to these photos at all, I can barely tell. They all look so wonderful and natural!
Laurie says:
So cute! Watching babies sleep is amazing.
I saw another blog yesterday and thought of you and then here you are today with pictures of Annie sleeping! You’ve probably already seen this, but as funny and creative as you are it would be awesome to see what you do! http://milasdaydreams.blogspot.com/
Suzie-IA mommy of 3 says:
Pure perfection!! And I love the new design!
Kristafied says:
She’s such a darling. I know what you mean about just watching them sleep; I do the same thing with my 3-month-old daughter.
Dawn @ What's Around the Next Bend? says:
I, too, LOVE to watch little ones sleep…something SO peacful about it!
All that other stuff… it can wait.
Inna says:
A sleeping beauty! My kids never slept on their tummies or anywhere but in their crib. So, i have no pictures of my sleeping babies, Oh..I so wish I had. Looking at yours make me smile. thank you
btw, Love your new design, feels refreshing
karen says:
The cleaning can wait, the laundry too, everything can.
There will be only one day that she will be like that exactly, so absorb it and enjoy it. Tomorrow will be different and the wonder will renew, and once again you will have to stop and stare.
My daughter is nearly 7 and a stealth bed stealer (she isnt there with me when I go to sleep but she’s often there when I wake up! We call her a bed ninja!). Every morning when I wake with her in my arms I dont want to get up, I lie and absorb her smell and shape and feel. I can even tell how much she has grown in the night. 7 years on and I still make the world wait.
CoffeeJitters (Judy Haley) says:
so cute. I remember with mine it seemed like I was always either waiting for her to go to sleep or waiting for her to wake up.
Java says:
Love the new layout Heather! That pic of Annie with her head up is beyond adorable!!
bronwyn sellers says:
my son is 19, away at college. i look at his baby pictures and it feels like it was just yesterday. i was a very involved mom and our relationship is so close. but as i look at his pictures, i wish i had taken more time. more time to watch him as he slept. more time to hold him tight.
chores can wait! enjoy sweet little one!
Shalini says:
These pictures are incredible. What I love so much is how Annabel is asleep on the couch. Not in a crib, bed, or on a blanket, but on the soft, microfiber couch which symbolized spontaneity for me. And isn’t that what sleep should be? Going down on the most comfy spot where you are and conking out?
It’s my favorite kind of sleep in the world.
Nefarious NapStealers says:
Sometimes the best thing to do, even though you have so much on the list, is to steal a little time for yourself and take a nap at the same time. It’s amazing how much more you can accomplish when you’re not sleep deprived.
