James’ space-themed birthday party was on Saturday and it was an absolute blast. As always, we went full-theme:

I know you’re thinking, “Heather, you look hot!” and you’re right. My costume was 1,000 degrees. Luckily, Mike and the kids’ costumes were much cooler.

All the kids got jet packs, plus they (and the adults) could grab head bobbers if they wanted them.

I had a few things planned for the kids. After they each arrived, we took them to “outer space,” aka, our play room, which we’d completely blacked-out and made into a glow-in-the-dark fun area.

I wasn’t sure if the kids would think the room was boring, or scary, or both, but they all loooooved it. We threw in some light-up balloons and glow sticks, and it was a space jam out there.

Once all the kids had arrived, it was time for the big show. Since James is a bubble freak, we had a “Bubblist” come make amazing bubbles. If you are ever looking for an idea to entertain kids from ages 0-10, go with a bubble show (this is the one we used, our Bubblist was awesome.). The Bubblist made all sorts of amazing bubbles, talked about science, and was very friendly and entertaining. Every kid was totally into it!

The coolest part was the kids got to go IN a bubble:

After the show, the kids got to go outside and make their own bubbles.

This was easily James’ favorite part of the day:

At one point, he got fully into a tub. He just really wanted to be one with the bubbles.

Of course, no party of ours is complete without a piñata.

I made the kids line up in age order, which allowed every kid to get a crack at the piñata before I ripped it open and dumped it out on all of them:

Then it was cake time!

James had no interest in blowing out his own candles, but luckily he had a helper:

He did not, however, need any help eating it:

In all, everyone had a ton of fun at the party. It made me so happy to see my beloved family and friends enjoying themselves. I love all of their kids like my own, so to see them all wearing jet packs, squealing at the bubbles, and laughing together made my heart feel like it was going to burst. My face hurt from smiling at the end of the day.

Of course, my little birthday boy’s happiness was number one, and his big day was great. He got cake, bubbles, and a ton of love and kisses from everyone (also some pretty amazing toys, kid is set), who could ask for anything more?

Pics by my awesome cousins Leah and Ted! Thanks, you guys!

Edit: I’ll post party details tomorrow!
