I love New York City. I’ve returned many times since I moved back to California, but NYC will always be my other home.
It’s been fun with Annabel. She loves the hustle and bustle of the city. She’s an insomniac in the city that never sleeps. She was made for New York.
In the name of photos and fun, I dragged Annie and Mike around town. It was such a blast to see things through Annabel’s eyes.
dancing on the giant piano (she’s grown so much since her last picture on it!)
We went to the top of Rockefeller Plaza and I forced Mike and Annie to join me on the outdoor observation decks for pictures:
pretending to be happy about being in the cold
Despite the warmth, there is still snow in Central Park:
Mike wouldn’t let me throw any snowballs, though. Such a spoilsport.
Our time in NYC is at an end and (despite all the damn gear) I am really bummed. I miss this city so much. It’s one of my favorite places on earth.
Kate @ UpsideBackwards says:
Sigh… me too! I don’t get there nearly as often as you do, funnily enough Thanks for letting me pretend to visit through your photos and stories!
Elle says:
New York City is one of my favorite places although I never lived there. When we lived on the east coast we would go up there and I never wanted to leave. Now that we’re on the west coast, who knows when will go back. le sigh
Your photos are awesome; it feels like I’m there.
Just thinking about NYC makes me want to break out and sing “Memories….” or “New York” but I’ll spare you.
Jenn says:
AAAAhhhhh NYC – Now that is one city that will ALWAYS have a piece of my heart too. I have been 5 times and have loved it every single time. The city really is magical. I will always love it and like you, I will always be a special place for that city!
I’m glad you had fun but going to a place like NYC, I don’t how you could NOT have had fun in the city that never sleep!!
Thanks for sharing!
Barb in Michigan says:
So glad you were able to go and introduce Annie to your old haunts ! I know Lisa and Matt were so happy to see you and meet Miss Annie ! Safe flight home to you and lots of love !
Kristen says:
I am about an hour and a half from NYC, but have only been there twice. My 11 year old will be there in two weeks…his cub scout pack will be sleeping on the USS Intrepid and visiting the Statue of Liberty.
Jana A says:
We love NYC. Would move there in a heartbeat. Henry (6) loves it so much, we gave him the choice of Disney or NYC for our “OMG we sold our house finally” trip and he chose NYC! Looks like a great trip!
Jen says:
I’ve still never been to NYC and these pics are helping to bump it to the top of my bucket list.
Although I think I’ll wait until NY weather is better because even though my cheeks are less chubby and less cute than Annabel’s, I still don’t want them chapped, haha.
Lisa says:
I’ve never been to NYC but I’ve always wanted to go. It is on my list of place I must visit soon. Your pictures only make me want to go more. Looks like it was a fabulous trip.
Ashley says:
We were there in Nov. I have almost the same pics as you. I loved Top Of The Rock… the view was breathtaking… literally tooooo LOL that wind is crazy up there.
Glad you had a great trip!
Kelly says:
I’ve never been, but would love to go. Until I can, I’ll live it through you, and your beautiful pictures.
Jennie says:
I work in midtown, near Rockefeller Center, and I kept secretly hoping I’d run into you on the street so I could tell you how wonderful your blog is. You’d think I was a weirdo, though. Travel home safely and keep up the wonderful writing.
Amanda Joy says:
I am glad that you had such a great time. The pictures look amazing. I haven’t been to New York since 1995 when I was almost 10. I would like to think that I would appreciate NY and Washington DC now that I am older;)
P.S. I had an inspiration last week since my little girl Abbie had a massive cold. Her poor little cheeks and nose were so chapped from all the nose blowing and wiping. Vaseline and Hydrocortisone just weren’t working fast enough. Then the idea struck to put the Lansinoh Lanolin Ointment on her cheeks and nose each night before bed. She woke up every morning with her face completely healed. It has been so nice; now if we could just get her nose to stop acting like a faucet:)
Elizabeth says:
Even as a resident of NYC I don’t get to do half this stuff! Pictures are amazing, it looks like you guys had a great time. Too bad you’re leaving before the warm weather comes!
Jen says:
Aaahh…you’re making me so nostalgic for my old stomping grounds. Having lived 30 minutes from NYC for so many years, I still miss it. Even though I get there for business, I’m dieing to take my 4-year-old who has never been.
Annie is sooo darling. Looks like she was made for an exciting place like New York!
Rebecca says:
I love being in the city – Chicago, Seattle… I have yet to go to NYC but I LOVE seeing all the pictures (I love the picture you took from the plane and of the Empire State Building, it looks like it could be from any time!). I’m waiting until I have enough money to do a NYC vacation right (being a waitress in college just doesn’t cut it). Thanks for sharing!!
Kristin (MamaKK922) says:
Breathtaking photos. I have never been to New York. I am not a huge fan of crowds. But you make me want to go see all the sights now. And Annie looks like she had the time of her life. I bet she’ll love it just as much as her Mama growing up.
Rebecca says:
So on Friday is she going to have a toddler version of Sex and the City video?
Glenda says:
I was born and raised in NY. I now split my time between CA and AZ (for work) NY will always be my home away from home.
I just got here last night and will be here a week, and when I’m here the tourist in me always comes out. I NYC!
Beautiful pictures…and yes the weather is on the warm side. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 63 YAY!!!
Shannon says:
love your coat! Tell Mike cold means cuddling. He should like that
Megan@TrueDaughter says:
I have never been to NYC. Well, I have, but I was 5 weeks old the last time. I don’t remember much. I do remember my mom handing me to a stranger to dig for keys – I’ll never forget that one, but other than that, none of the sights or sounds of NYC stuck with me. I would love to go back!
Miss Annie looks like she is having the time of her life – and her lil purple coat is so, stinking cute. Isn’t it funny how her coloring just sort of lends itself to purple?
AmazingGreis says:
NY is definitely one of my favorite places as well. I’ve never been in the winter and I’m so ready to go!!!
wonderchris says:
That green jacket of yours looks amazing on you! Love the new hair by the way. I’m so old school spelling out by the way.
Annie Y says:
I was in NYC in November and it was a whirlwind trip that I wish would’ve lasted longer. I absolutely loved my time there and wan’t to go back sooo bad!
Where did you stay because your view looks a lot like mine did!
molly says:
Aquaphor those cheeks! It is the best stuff ever…it will heal the cheeks and it will prevent the chapping if you put it on before you go out. I live in PA…trust me, it’s necessary in the cold weather!
Your trip looked so fun! Annabel is peach!
katrina says:
How fun! I love New York, too. I haven’t been there in about 14 years, though. I would go more often…if it weren’t so far away! I’m in CA like you, but our family is too large to fly places ( we would need 11 seats — ouch!$$$ ) so if we can’t drive there, we don’t go. Bummer, I know. How in the world will we ever get to Hawaii? I’m still trying to find away around that one….
Mommy says:
LOVE her pink shoes!!
mar says:
Cold? You thought it was cold here this week? Oh honey – it was absolutely balmy here this week! You SoCal peeps don’t know from cold! I live here, and trust me – we had single digit days last week. You came during a big thaw!!!
Glad you had a good time – NYC is magical at any age!
Heather says:
oh, *I* didn’t think it was cold. I only wore a jacket one day, and it was really more for fashion than warmth. Mike, on the other hand, is ALWAYS cold. He would run our heater year-round if I’d let him. I lived in NYC and my first winter there, the entire month of January the high temp never got past 15. BRRR!
Summer says:
I love NYC also, going there next week to visit our son. It never gets old.
Ray says:
New Yorker, here! Even though I don’t live in Manhattan: it OWNS my HEART! There’s still a million and one things I’ve never done and seen. I definitely want to be a tourist in my own city, like you.
That photo of Annie on the F.A.O. Schwarz giant piano is awesomeness! I can’t get enough of her ponytail! ^o^
Trisha Vargas says:
Looks like you all had a great time. My hubby is from NY and I’ve visited one time, but would love to go back and actually get to visit all the places and see some shows.
Annie is getting cuter by the day. The sweater and scarves are too adorable on her.
Didn’t know if anyone had mentioned it to you or not, but Eucerin’s Aquaphor works great for chapped cheeks. My 2 year old has really bad eczema break outs during the winter and her cheeks are super sensitive to the wind. It’s a little pricy for a jar, but it lasts a long time and works good for diaper chafing too.
(((HUGS))) to you all from Florida
baseball says:
I’m from New York, I moved to Australia last year to be with my boyfriend, and I miss NY so much! I know how it feels to miss it
I hope to be going back soon, though!!
Cute pics, by the way!!!
Leigh Elliott says:
Great photos Heather! So glad you had fun! Can I ask where you stayed? I’ve been aching for a visit to the city but have been crazily freaked about bed bugs. We live in NH and a couple months ago were picked for tickets to the Dr. Oz show (I love him) and my mom and sister were too freaked to go to the city with me. Then they got me all paranoid. I will not let that stop me going to NYC but I would like to know where a “safe” place to stay is! Thanks
Heather says:
we stayed at the Warwick Hotel. We got a great deal through Hotwire!
I hope they go with you – NYC is so amazing!
Leigh Elliott says:
Thanks Heather!!!
