I can’t believe that in a month I’ll have a one-year-old.
month one, month two, month three, month four, month five, month six, month seven, month eight, month nine, month ten
weight: 21 pounds, 13 ounces
length: 30 inches
head: 20 inches
hair: Look out, McDreamy
Ohhh James. My squishy, cuddly boy has had a very busy month. As I mentioned last week, he’s been extremely active of late. That hasn’t slowed down at all! In fact, he’s started taking a few steps here and there – always from one safe place to another (like the couch to the table, the baby gate to Mike’s arms, etc), but steps are steps! James has never been afraid of falling, so I’m anticipating even more bruises than he already has. Last month he got a craaaaaazy-big goose egg on his forehead.
James babbles constantly, but he definitely says “Mama” and “Dada” regularly. I also think he’s started calling Annie, “Na-Na” because whenever she leaves the room he stands at the baby gate and yells, “Nanananananananaaaaaaaaa!” He absolutely adores Annie and just wants to be wherever she is. She still loves him, but since he likes to put her toys in his mouth, she doesn’t always like playing where he can reach her.
He is so incredibly friendly. He smiles at everyone he meets, and he’ll let anyone hold him. No stranger anxiety with this one! He’s pretty independent, but to my delight he still loves to cuddle. Rocking him to sleep at night is one of my favorite parts of the day. He starts squirmy, but slowly relaxes as he plays with my hair. That sweet contented sigh right before he completely falls asleep is the best.
But when he’s awake? He never….
…stops…
…moving.
Skilled walking is only going to “enhance” this, I’m sure.
AAAAH I can’t believe he’s going to be one! I can’t believe it!

I have 3 very close together girls, but my 8 year old’s best friend has a 2 year old brother. I love to watch that big sister/little brother relationship as it unfolds. He has recently begun to really talk and it’s so sweet to listen to him ask for her, watch her take care of him, etc. You have such fun ahead of you watching the relationship between Annie and James unfold!
Steph says:
omigoodness he is adorably adorable! His name for Annie reminds me of when our toddler would yell for her big sister by yelling “Yaya Yaya”. Big sis is Sara. Precious fleeting times. I’m a bit jealous that you have such good documentation of it. Wish I had done that:)
Melissa says:
James is just a doll! My brother is 3 years younger than me and we had so much fun together growing up! I always tell his wife without me he wouldn’t be able to function, I taught him to read, ride his bike, tie his shoes… and do important things like stand in his walking cast. The older sister/ baby brother relationship is priceless!

Him eating the blocks. My ovaries can’t handle the cuteness.
That last picture of him is breathtaking. Such beautiful eyes!
When my cousin was little, she couldn’t say Jordan, so she called me Noo-Noo (as in the robot from Teletubbies. Sigh). She’s 16 now, and she STILL calls me that when she’s mad at me!
Nicole says:
Perfect choice of color for him and those eyes! My favorite pic is the second one where he looks like he is contently munching on a block. Kinda like Cookie Monster.
ldoo says:
I’ve never used “beautiful” to describe a boy, but he is. He’s just breathtaking. And of course he gets away with everything. Look at those eyes! He’s just so cute.
Ally says:
Don’t forget ” grabby Jim” !!!
Auntie_M says:
Oh, I agree! Beautiful does describe James!!!
Can’t believe it’s almost been a whole year since he was born!!! And about to walk!!! Look out world!!!
Meg says:
My little brother called me Nin or Ninny for the first few years because he couldn’t master “Megan” which was adorable. He’s now my not-so-little-at-6’3″ brother.
I am SO SORRY James has mastered screaming for fun.
Amy says:
James is such a beautiful baby boy!
Molly says:
Oh, what a beautiful boy!
