Yesterday Annie had her eighteen month well baby visit. Eighteen months!
weight: 29 pounds 6 ounces
length: 33.5 inches tall
head: 19.85 inches
hair: sticky with some sort of food substance
(month one, month two, month three, month four, month five, month six, month seven, month eight, month nine, month ten, month eleven, month twelve, month fifteen)
After the nurse weighed and measured Annie, Dr. Looove popped her head in to ask if it was OK for Annie to be seen by her med student. We said sure, so in he came to examine Annie. I felt bad for him, it was clear immediately that he was no match for Annabel. He needed to take his time to figure out proper placement of stethoscopes and otoscopes and the like, and Annie was not having it. She was also kind enough to let the entire building know she didn’t appreciate getting the rookie.
While she screamed, he asked us (in all seriousness) if she threw temper tantrums. Poor, poor med student. He was also subjected to Annie’s Fear Farts, something that, uh…runs in the family. It took an assist from Mike to get the exam done.
how many grown men does it take to hold down a toddler?
After the med student finished his exam and ran out of the room, Dr. Looove came back and chatted with us. Annie is in the 97th percentile for height, weight, and head size. Since she’s perfectly proportionate AND Mike is a big guy, I was told not to worry that she is already more than half my height. Yes – more than half my height! That is so insane to me. I am 100% certain she could beat me up.
We gave Dr. Looove the rundown of everything Annie can do – the words she says, the new skills she’s learned, her progress towards a Masters Degree. I told her how fiercely independent Annie is – she won’t let us help her eat or brush her teeth, she wants to comb her own hair, and put on her own shoes. According to Dr. Looove, an independent streak is common at this age. So SEE MOM AND DAD, it’s not JUST her taking after me!
Imma touch these, just because I can.
At the end of the appointment, it took three adults (two parents and a nurse) to hold Annie still for one vaccine. OH. THE. DRAMA.
Hours later, my drama queen was still milking her sore arm, letting it hang limp while she pointed to her band-aid and yelled at me.
“Mama! Owwwwwie! MAMA! OWWWWWWWWIE!”
When she thought I wasn’t looking, she used that arm to throw toys to Rigby.
I am looking into toddler acting lessons.
debi says:
My Lord she is a beautiful little girl. And so much personality. Look out!
Mommy says:
She is so gorgeous, it is unreal. And your photos are amazing- I feel like I “know” her through the shots that you take!
Love to you all!
Marsha says:
Such a sweet dollbaby and so darned cute!!
Hey now there is nothing wrong with being a strong willed independent 18 month old :-p
She will be an awesome independent adult woman someday
heather says:
I know you’re likely joking, but Annie sounds like my Miss D at that age. She is involved with a local kids theatre group here in town and loves every minute of it (she’s not almost
I like to think (delude myself) that it’s entirely possible we’re getting all of those temper tantrums out of the way now so that the whole puberty/hormonal thing will be met with a charming, Emily Post style, delicate flower of a teenage girl.
Madi G. says:
LOL — I love this age! Really, I do! It’s so fun to watch your baby’s personality emerge in a big way!
I think Annie looks so darn cute in that dress! I love the second photo in particular!

Amanda says:
She is such a beauty! I can’t believe she is 18 months!
Becca says:
Yay! Happy year and a half Annie!
I flipping looooove her attitude. As much as a handful I”m sure it is, it absolutely cracks me up.
Oh boy.. you two have your work cut out for you!
Rebecca says:
I wonder if it’s a coastal thing, the doctors out here give vaccines in the upper thigh and not the shoulder. Even flu vaccines (which we no longer get the shot, we get the mist. Oh so much better)
Nanette says:
It probably varies by doctor. I live a few miles from Heather, and our doc gives our tot her shots in her upper thigh.
Audra says:
Gotta love the doctor’s office in July with the brand new med students. I’m a teacher, so I always feel like I need to be agreeable when I’m asked about med students…with myself. I actually ended up switching doctor’s offices for my girls to one that doesn’t use as many med students after I got asked about colic and whether or not we have smoke detectors in our home one too many times …and by one too many times I mean at time #87 when my oldest was a year and a half. I’m not suggesting that you switch docs at all. I just wonder if med student programs could do a better job of balancing the fact that their students need experience with the fact that those who are agreeable to seeing students get asked the same questions ad nauseum and with a fussy toddler it becomes unbearable after awhile.
Little Momma says:
So cute and growing so fast! How can that not put a smile on your face?
Just a thought from one momma to another, you mentioned hours later she was pointing to the band-aid. I’ve found with my littles that the post-shot band-aid annoys them (maybe it tugs at their skin or feels uncomfortable), so I remove it before we even leave the doc’s office. Of course, even without the band-aid, I suspect your Annie will still play that sympathy card!
Becca_Masters says:
Annie is absolutely adorable!!
Homa says:
Love her smile in the first picture! A student once sat in on a visit my daughter had and snickered as I talked about her food allergies. I guess he was nervous but my first instinct was to glare at him.
Rachel R. says:
I can’t get over how adorable she is! I’m glad her checkup is over. Poor Annie. Poor Annie’s arm.
Lisa says:
Annie is so adorable, love her. Already learning to milk those boo boos
Emily says:
She is such a cutie! I love these posts.
Wendy says:
OMG! She is so cute, and her big toe in the second picture is cracking me up. My eight year old just showed me that he can do that with his left big toe too, and it kind of freaks me out! How do they do that?!
MOnica says:
Happy eighteen month beautiful!
Heather says:
When my son got his kindergarten shots he became a parapalegic for two days. The first day he sat on the floor of the play room and drug himself around with his arms. The second day he told the babysitter that he could only get up to play the Wii… but other than that, his legs hurt too bad. Talk about milking it.
Trisha says:
She is so expressive in all her photos and just precious!
Tina says:
The green polka-dot dress with the red rose is KILLING me. I kind of want an outfit like that for myself!
Nanette says:
Happy 18 months, Annie!
Emily says:
WHEN DID SHE GET SO BIG???!!!! I feel like last week I was reading about “Binky” and waiting for the post saying that she had arrived!!
Tami says:
She is sooo adorable!! I think you are going to have your hands full .lol She has quite the personality to charm you . What a doll!!
Giselle says:
They say at 2yrs old she should be about half as tall as she will be. If that’s true, she’ll be one tall lady!!!
Kristin says:
I’ve heard it’s 2 years for boys and 18 months for girls. So it’s not that unusual that Annie is half her mommy’s height.
Christina says:
She is breathtaking in these photos! Makes me want a little girl!!!
Funnelcloud Rachel says:
Love the pictures of her these month! So adorable and such gorgeous eyes!
Barb in Michigan says:
Annie is so beautiful ! I love those eyes. As for being Miss Independent , I have a feeling it’s in both sets of genes !
I’m a former teacher and long time day care provider who has survived the aftermath of many a Dr’s visit. The majority of kiddos LOVE bandaids. Oh , I bumped my knee 3 weeks ago , can I have a CARS bandaid ? My hand hurts , can I have a DORA bandaid ? We keep the bandaid companies aflost all by ourselves !
I have noticed my kids seem to run more fevers and have tender legs /arms much more often than in the past. Not sure why.
Happy 18 mos Miss Annie ! Only 14 1/2 more years until you drive !
Pattie says:
Happy 18 months, Annie! What a gorgeous little girl.
And thanks, Heather, for the “Fear Farts” comment. Biggest laugh I’ve had in a while.
Jenn says:
She is BEAUTIFUL!!!! She is really turning into an extremely Pretty LITTLE GIRL – not just a toddler – a child!
All of you crack me up – HHmmm….I guess Fear Farts aren’t the ONLY thing that runs in the family!!! (Not that I’m suggesting you and Mike Fear Fart…and if you do…well,…let’s just keep it the in the vault – shall we??)!
It amazes me how one can fall in love with a baby/babies one has NEVER met but I have to say….I have. I love and miss Maddie so much and I love Annie too and I simply cannot WAIT to meet her…well, and yourself & Mike too.
No one is perfect but I do appreciate your kindness and support you have given myself and my daughter!!! I thank you both and really do Adore you and your family!! Thanks for sharing your NOT so little girl with us and as always…. of course sweet, adorable, innocent Maddie. I’m so happy you’re as generous and as giving as you are!! THANK YOU!!!!
Patt says:
Oh my gosh, she is so beautiful. What fun. You realize that you are going to have to keep that chair forever? Do you think she will be able to fit in it with her new husband when she gets married? You can take a pic of her sitting in it with her own babies one day. That chair is going to have so many stories to tell… already does.
Carla says:
Did you let Dr. Looove know about that situation with Annie not knowing her foot from her butt??? ….j/w….lol!
Courtney says:
My son was already over half my height at his 15 month check-up in June. He could definitely kick my butt if he really tried! I fear the day he rockets past my 5’3 frame – I just know I’ll have to get my bluff in early!
Annie just looks so much more grown up now! It’s so subtle from one day (post) to the next, but when you see these comparison pics, it really hits you!
Lisa says:
AHH!! she is goregous!! I have a boy and would totally try to have another one, but you know the odds are really not in my favor for a girl anyways, I had to click back to see what she looked like at 15 months and holy moly, she is no longer a little babe!! she is a full on toddler!!
Erica says:
I am laughing because you describe one of my Twinadoes to a T! Oh Heather, having girls is something…and you are seeing that in so many ways. Thanks for sharing your stories and your girls with us…Annabel is a DOLL! And she is the same size as my 2 yr old boy. I think my son is small but HUGE for my family who is petite. Love it!
LT says:
Love the pictures. Happy 18 months Annie!
Caroline says:
She is so stinking cute!!!! I love her cheeks, she looks so much like Maddie:)
Alison says:
I about PEED myself laughing at “fear farts”!! LOL! I’d like to call them a “defense mechanism”!! Not that I would know anything about that… nope… not me… erm…anyhoo.. Annie’s so BIG now, and SWEET!!!!!!!!!!
Kristy H says:
She is such a little beauty!!! Love those curls, I wish I would’ve never made the decision to cut my daughters!
And my daughter is 8 and it still takes 3 people to hold her down for her shots, lol! I think I dread it more than she does, next time I’ll have to bribe her for days just to get her in the car!
AmazingGreis says:
Poor Annie! She needs a hug from me! Also, why are you letting her get SOOOOOO big? She looks like such a little girl in the first picture.
Jana says:
She is SO beautiful!!! Just precious!
Janet says:
She is stunning! Absolutely gorgeous!!
I like that they are so different in their appearance, makes things…………………………separate!!
Gemini-Girl says:
Fear Farts- ha! reminds me of soleil. When she gets stressed out she has to #2- very much her grandfather’s granddaughter.
Katie says:
I LOOOOOOOOVE the first picture!!! ADORABLE!!!! Oh, Mike is going to have his hands full in about 14 years…..
Missy says:
I don’t typically make comments, I’m more of a blog stalker – watching in the wings. However I have to tell you that your little girl is absolutely adorable. And I know cute kids, I have three beautiful daughters myself, so I’m clearly an expert. I’m new to blogging, and have been cyberstalking several blogs to “get the feel” of how they work, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed yours. Thank you and great blog!
