This month, James became a baby with wants and needs beyond eat/sleep/clean. Specifically, he wants everything he can grab (and everything he can’t). Annie quickly learned that she can’t leave anything precious to her anywhere near James, because everything he touches is covered in a fine layer of drool. He gets extremely focused on the items he wants and starts grunting, rocking, and rolling until he can reach it. It’s hilarious except it means he’s going to be crawling soon, and once he can move it’s aaaaallllll over.

This little guy is impossible to resist. He’ll let absolutely anyone hold him, and doesn’t care if he can’t see a familiar face – as long as someone is playing with him, he’s happy as can be. He’s started an adorable new habit of acting shy when he first meets someone. He’ll smile, then bury his head into my chest, then look back at the new person from my chest and smile again. People basically throw ponies and jewels at him.

He’s still not sleeping well. He’s teething (again) and I am hopeful that once his fourth bottom tooth finally breaks through, he’ll have a bit of a reprieve. His smile is so cute with seven teeth! But those baby teeth are evil and really need to be stopped.

He’s been pushing himself into the crawl position more and more, but then seems puzzled about what should happen next. Annie likes to get on the floor next to him to demonstrate crawling, but that always leads to a giggle-fest of epic proportions. Annie can literally just look at James and say, “Ooga Booga” and he will laugh like he just heard the funniest joke in the world. Of course, now Annie thinks she IS the funniest person in the world, but I don’t think James would disagree.

We are right on the edge of big stuff with this little guy. I can’t deny it any longer, it’s time to baby proof. I have a feeling he is going to be trouble.

Adorable trouble, but definitely trouble.
