We woke Annie up yesterday morning and said, “Hey Annie! Want to go on an…adventure?!” She’s a gamer, so even though it was early, she said yes. While we got her dressed and ready we asked her if she had any guesses for our adventure. “Are we going in the car to get gas?” No Annie, think bigger. “Are we going to my wedding?” Um. No. (WTF?) “Are we going to see Dr. Looove?” At that point we stopped asking for ideas and started explaining exactly what adventure means.
Anyway, two hours later we were at our adventure destination…Disneyland! The squealing when she realized where we were was better than we’d hoped. The parks were all decked out for the holidays and everything looked amazing.
I couldn’t go on many rides because of pregnancy or motion sickness, but it worked out well because at first Annie really wanted to play games.
With the Woody and Bullseye dolls I won for her. Never challenge me on carnival games.
Then we passed a few characters and that’s where she just went nuts. She couldn’t believe she could get their photos and their autographs.
Mike really wanted to meet the characters, too.
And then. Then we took her to a lunch, where the princesses come around to the tables, and holy cow. It was the most amazingly hilarious lunch of my life.
First we met Ariel, which went normally enough.
Then we went to our table, and the princesses came around to meet everyone and just…her face. Look at it.
First with Cinderella.
Then with Aurora.
Even with Snow White.
We were all laughing hysterically at her expression. The family at the table next to ours would stop what they were doing every time Annie posed with a princess, just so they could watch. We wondered if things would be different when her most favorite, Princess Belle, came over.
Annie said, “I’m Annabel, and you’re Belle!”
A real smile!
Annnnnnd there it is.
I was able to go on It’s A Small World with her, which was so adorably decked out for the holidays that I could hardly stand it. Annie also sang along during the entire ride (alternating verses of “It’s A Small World” and “Jingle Bells”), clapping and pointing out everything that caught her fancy.
She went on the tea cups with Mike and Uncle Kyle:
We walked past the carousel and she said, “Mama, will you ride a horse with me?” So of course I did.
not pictured: barf bag in my pocket.
She also slept on my dad’s shoulder through almost the entire Pirates of the Caribbean ride. That takes some serious talent.
We are hoping to do a few more of these adventures before the baby is born, to not only make sure she feels special, but so Mike and I can enjoy her “solo” status. After the baby comes we’ll squeeze in more Annie Days, too.
I really hope she remembers today, though.
(ed. Yes, I felt crappy and was sick there several times, but I was determined to give Annie a great time. I don’t know what the rest of this pregnancy will bring, so I made it work.)

Connie says:
One of my favorite posts ever! The pictures of Annie with the princesses are priceless. I got a little teary eyed. I loved her guesses at where she was going “are we going to my wedding”, lol. You have to frame the one of her and Belle with the “real” smile. But I love the ones with the faces, she is so dang cute. What a wonderful memory you made for her.
shan says:
I love love love it. The pictures are fabulous. What special memories!!!! We are taking the kids to a Holiday in the Park at Six Flags this weekend…surprise. I cannot hold it in…hubby just knows I’m gonna blab it…lol!
MissyK says:
Oh those pics of Annie are just ADORABLE!! You would never be able to tell that you felt awful. You look just beautiful Heather.
Elizabeth says:
What a fun time! I am extremely jealous. Disney world is about 15 hrs away from us. We took our daughter last year when I was pregnant with little man and it was amazing. She’s still asking to go back.
On a side note, one thing we did that helped when baby brother was born was to make her a special present from her baby brother. She had a special big sister bag, magic sister wand, crown, and some small toys. We gave it to her when she first came to the hospital to meet little man.
JoAnn says:
You are an awesome, awesome mom. You inspire me! And these pictures are some of my favorite on this blog!

I so miss Disney land. (I grew up in Simi Valley.) But those faces–that girl cracks me up. Thanks again for sharing her with us. She seriously makes my day brighter. And what a mom you are–you just rock. (So does Mike.)
Kate says:
That face is truly priceless. These great pictures will at least make her think she remembers it! Glad you had a great day!
Sara says:
You are such a great mom! I love love love love all the pictures of Annie and princesses. Way to go Annie
Bren (BMom) says:
Heather! Oh how I love this post (I love them all, but Disney+me = extra love)! I am a self-proclaimed Disney nut and seeing Annie with the princesses made me teary-eyed. Her face/reaction is beyond priceless and she and Belle = what a beautiful pair!
We’ve been to WDW three times now, but when we went for the first time my youngest was 7, middle 10 and oldest 12. I soooooo wish I had taken the kids when they were even younger, if anything to meet the characters, and so I lived a little vicariously through your post. But what I do love about Disney is no matter the age, it’s a great place to be a kid.
Thanks as always for the great post! You look beautiful and hope you are feeling okay.
~B~
Rebecca says:
Wow, to live close enough to Disney to wake up and decide to go on a whim. Color me jealous. You guys are great and I just want to thank you for taking us along on the ride. Disney is awesome.
Nanette says:
Ohhhhh, that’s the best pic-posing face EVER!
Michelle says:
Those pictures–oh my gosh. We are planning a trip to Disney World with my family for May–I can only hope that my son reacts this way with all his favorite characters! I booked us a lunch with all the Disney Junior characters. I’m hoping that he loves seeing Special Agent Oso, and Jake, and Handy Manny!
Melli says:
Annie’s expressions are AWESOME
skat says:
Annie will remember. You will be surprised how much little kids retain when it comes to fun stuff
I took my daughter to the Princess Breakfast in February for her 4th birthday. The money spent was well worth it!! Her face when she saw the princesses was priceless. I can see it in Annie too!
Also, you are doing so great. The Annie time will pay off. My husband and I still do special things for our daughter since the arrival of her brother over a year ago.
Debbie B. says:
What a special day. You are a trooper! The pictures are great! Love the one of Annie hugging Minnie. And her face in the princess pictures – OMG – priceless! Such a cutie.
steve shilstone says:
That’s so cool. Brought back memories of taking my own 2-year old (He’s 30 now, yikes!) to Disneyland for the 1st time. He adored it, but his claim to fame was tearing a leaf off a bush and running up to throw it at the Queen of Hearts before hastily retreating. All the best to you wonderful Spohrs.
Erin says:
The one of her with Cinderella is my favorite. She does a great over the top impression of Tom Haverford (from Parks and Rec). Love it!
Heather says:
OH MY GOD. Your comment made me laugh so hard. TOM HAVEFORD! It’s SO TRUE! I will laugh for days.
Amanda says:
“I really hope she remembers today, though.” That line made me teary. Remembering my magical Disney trips as a little girl Annie’s age. You guys create the best memories for her.
Lorie says:
Awww, I just cried a little with this post. Everything looks so awesome decorated for the holidays! Disneyland is absolutely one of my favorite places on earth. I’ve only been a few times as I live about 12 hours away. I took my daughter when she was 5 years old and she will be 14 in a few months. I think it’s time for another road trip! And Annie’s face meeting the princesses!! Oh my gosh, so hilarious!
Glenda says:
You might not be feeling well, but you look great!
Hope as your pregnancy progresses you begin to feel better and better.

Way better than getting gas!!!
Her smile and yours in the face of sickness….are a whole lot of awesome!!
I’m hoping for a video of this adventure!

Leslie says:
I want to go to Disneyland with Annie! She looks like she is having the best.time.ever. We are going in a few weeks. We went last year and Austin fell asleep during the Christmas Parade. Hoping he stays awake for it this year. Love that the whole family went. The Spohrchanans are my favorite.
Heather says:
Austin will love the parade this year, Annie lost her mind over it. Especially Buzz and Woody! We all need to go together – we’ll talk tomorrow, love you!
Kelly says:
The expression on her face with the princesses was beyond adorable. Love it!
Donna P says:
So. much. Fun!!! The expressions are priceless.

My youngest just made Annie’s same expression when she saw all those pictures. She’s in love with princesses right now.
What’s with Pirate of the Caribbean? It knocked my oldest out cold too & then she slept through the Haunted Mansion.
Tara says:
Okay, LOVED this post so much! First off, Annie asking if you were going to her wedding. Hilarious.
I love Annie’s expressions with the princesses too. Oh my! So sweet and funny.
I also have to say that you look great Heather! And what an awesome mom you are for making a fun day for Annie despite how you’re feeling.
Lauren says:
I have had a terrible day…this post just made it all better!

Sherry says:
oh. my. god. she’s beaming so hard and so excited. the photos you captured are priceless. even if she doesn’t remember when she’s older, when she looks back and see these pictures, i’m certain she’ll remember that happiness all over again.

You’re awesome!
Barb in Michigan says:
Such a wonderful day! I can feel her joy and wonder all the way here in Michigan!
I know just how you and now Kate feel. I was sooo ill when I was pg with Lisa. There was no name, but morning sickness back then. I usually could stretch about an hr and a half between being sick. Lisa’s older sister , Stephanie was 3 1/2 almost 4. She would sit on her little white stool next to the toilet reading to me while my head was over the toilet. It happened so muc, she just thought it was normal I’m sure. I do hope you feel better. Anti-nausea drugs and crackers ( still can’t eat a saltine) did nothing for me.
Heather says:
OH, the image of her sitting there reading to you is so adorable/heartbreaking!
Leslie K says:
OMG, those are the sweetest pictures! WTG, Mom and Dad… clearly, she had the best day EVER!
Brooke says:
LOVE those facial expressions! She is adorable. What a treat for you guys to be able to make her so happy.
Norma says:
Y’all look wonderful! What great pictures. Annie’s expressions are truly priceless. God Bless you all.
Amy says:
Holy cow! You are a trooper! I know the carousel had to have made you sick, it’s much faster than it appears to be! Annie’s face is priceless. Nothing like spending the most wonderful time of the year at the happiest place on earth! Does it still snow on Main Street?
Heather says:
It does! Although we had run out of gas by that point. It is supposedly gingerbread scented!
RC says:
Oh gosh, her face with the princesses…PRICELESS!
Mindi says:
WOW! What an awesome surprise for Annie and I love the photos. Heather you are a trooper and an amazing mom. I was so excited to see the post today because we have just booked a trip there for next month. It will be under the tree for our kids. Planning this trip has taken a lot of phone calls and organization, I forget that not everyone has to take an airplane to get there. I love that you just got up and it went. You made it look so simple and wonderful. I hope it is a day that will not be forgotten.
MichelleM says:
Love her face with the princesses! We have a 3-yr-old daughter and just seeing their joy makes it all worth it! How neat that you surprised her by taking her there! We live in Iowa so we can’t drive there on a whim but I wish!! That’s especially awesome since you don’t feel good. I was sick during my pregnancy too and had to have saltines near me at all times. It’s was hard for me to even manage a shower and teeth-brushing so Disneyland is impressive!! I hope your sickness goes away and you have a smooth pregnancy so you can actually enjoy it!
BekMonkey says:
Freaking WORK IT, Heather! You did an amazing job of playing through the pain. Trust me, she’ll remember, my sis and I took my niece the summer before she started kindergarten, she hadn’t turned 5 yet, and she remembers so much, talked about it nonstop for YEARS afterwards. She’s 13 now and wants to go to DisneyWorld this year before she starts high school, along the same lines as the trip to DisneyLand.
Yolanda says:
omg, THANK YOU for re-linking to this post! i forgot how hilarious her princess face was.
