My big goal this year was to take more family photos, and I’ve failed miserably. I realized a few weeks ago that we haven’t taken a picture of the four of us since Annie’s birthday, and before that, Christmas. That’s just not going to cut it. I called my friend Yvonne, who is starting a photography business with her brother-in-law, Robbie, and booked her to take family portraits. They shot us with a combination of digital and film, and we got the photos over the weekend. I’m so happy with how they turned out, and I wanted to share some of my favorites!
We didn’t realize it at the time, but Annie was right on the brink of being pretty sick with a bad chest cold. She was a trooper, although her usual zest for posing wasn’t always there. I still think she looks beautiful.
I love the one-on-one photos of Mike and me with each kid.
There are some stunning individual photos of Annie and James:
But the ones that make me the happiest are of Annie and James together. They are just the sweetest.
I cannot WAIT to hang these up on our walls. It was much more relaxing being in front of the camera than behind it! I’m so glad I booked professionals. I was going to say it was a splurge, but honestly, to have these photos…they’re priceless.

Lanie says:
The pictures are fantastic!! It is on my list to have pictures taken of our family. I always seem to be behind the camera (which is my preference but I know I will regret not having pictures of all of us).
I hope Annie is feeling better. xo

I have been debating getting pro shots done for awhile, but this has sealed the deal! You are also totally in my hood! Chase Park represent! We go there at least once a week with the kids. You guys look beautiful. Your kids are just the cutest!
Jolene says:
GORGEOUS pictures. Such a beautiful family. I can’t choose a favorite either but that last one made my heart flutter. They will look so amazing once they’re all framed and hung in your house
Jordan says:
Gorgeous photos!
1. I need Annie’s hair. And Annie’s style.
2. James has legit the BEST facial expressions. Ever.
3. That last picture is just heart-melting. And the kids’s faces on the kissing pic? Priceless.
jamie says:
Wow. The pictures are gorgeous.
Shaynee says:
So lovely. You are doing a much better job than my family at family photos. My youngest is 6 (years), and I think I have been in perhaps 12 pictures since he was born.

I’m so glad you are getting good photos of these years. As the great-great-greatgranddaughter of a pioneer in German photography who took daguerreotypes and talbotypes of his family members, I can’t even begin to tell you how precious they are! My father can’t remember how he celebrated his 8th birthday if asked, but a photograph taken that day unlocks his memories like nothing else can. I desperately wish I had kept a journal (written or photo) of my children’s early years–I thought I would remember when my second child cut her first tooth or when my third child learned to “pump” on the swings, but those memories have been overlaid by the second child learning how to drive and the third child scoring his first goal in lacrosse. We are so lucky these days to have computers, digital cameras, and readily-available photobooks to be our backup memory storage!
