Sooner Or Later

by Heather on January 20, 2010

in Binky, Doctor Schmoctor, Heather, pregnancy is...fun?

As of this past Sunday, I am thirty-six weeks pregnant. If you’re bad at math (like me) that means I’m nine months along. Want to see what nine months pregnant looks like?

36weeks 2days

That’s the pleasant side view. Then there is the HOLY CRAP head-on view:

18/365: nine months

Mike says that’s the scariest picture ever. Well, PRETEND IT’S YOUR STOMACH, MIKE!

It IS very uncomfortable. I’m not sleeping much. I have been having a lot of contractions, and in general my body is really tired. But I can’t complain, because in just four days? I will be officially full-term.

When Doctor Risky came into my exam room yesterday, she reminded me of this, and then she and Mike did a happy little dance while I shifted around on the table. We’ve all worked really hard to make it to this point and we are THISCLOSE to achieving our goal of a full-term Binky.

During my exam we talked about the increased contractions I’ve been having. They haven’t been regular, but they’ve been coming with a bit more frequency and a lot more intensity. My fundal height is still way ahead of the curve. So keeping all this in mind, Dr. Risky has me on strict orders to call her office or Labor and Delivery if I have four contractions in an hour, even if they are irregular. She’s being very conservative about my previous c-section scar and really does not want me going into labor.

We then talked about my medications. On Saturday I will give myself my last shot of blood thinner! I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS! I’m still going to take my anti-contraction medications until 24 hours before my c-section.

That, of course, brings up the million-dollar question – when will my c-section be? Dr. Risky was originally talking about having my c-section sometime in February, but with the baby’s size and my contractions, she is considering a change of plans. She decided to schedule an ultrasound for next Tuesday. Depending on the results, my c-section could possibly be bumped up to next week!

Our main concern has always been what’s best for Binky. If coming next week is the best, we are thrilled that she’ll be here so soon. But if Dr. Risky decides she needs more time, she’ll be a February baby.

Unless, of course, Binky takes matters into her own hands and sends me into labor. It would be just like one of my kids to want to do things her own way.

I must admit that I can’t help be heave a huge sigh of relief after seeing your belly and be thankful that my guy did me the favour of showing up 7 weeks early (5 lb 11′oz = 97th percentile for 33 weeker) and not being the over 10 pounder that was expected!

I was just showing my kids my preggo pic’s and they were shocked. I would like to think that they have a new found respect for me, considering my son was 10 pounds when he was born! I am barely 5’2″ so I am pretty sure I was wider than I was taller! LOL! I know how uncomfortable you are, but it is such a blessing to have her inside developing so well! Every day I rush to my computer to see what you have to write. Seriously, it’s the first thing I do! I ADORED Maddie, and followed her every development along the way. I have shared your heartbreak not knowing what to say. I will always keep that special little angel in my prayers…
And now I am over the moon with excitement over your Binky. She will be her own special little girl with a big sister watching out for her from above. I am just so very, very happy for you. I wish I could put it into words as expressive as yours…

Not ONLY do you not have any stretch marks, you are completely all tummy! You look like one of those pregnant women who will look like they didn’t just have a baby *x* weeks ago! I don’t have any kids yet, but I’m pretty sure I’m gonna want to have a talk with Binks to get some gestational tips for my unborns. :)

Sooooo excited about full term! I can’t believe it could be next week for Binky!! How awesome is that! She’ll be big and beautiful and loved, and have the most amazing parents that got through so much to bring her into the world perfectly healthy. Kudos to all of you!

Congrats again and can’t wait until Sunday (37wks), Tuesday (ultrasound) and Binky’s arrival!

XOXO from GA!

OOHHH Heather!!!!
As soon as I read 36 weeks I started to cry and I haven’t stopped. You did it Sweetie….you are full term (where I live they consider 36 weeks to be full term). I know you probably don’t consider me to be your “real” friend but I want you to know, too me, you are my friend and I simply could not be more proud, thrilled or excited for you!!!

Just think Heather….this time next week….you could be holding your daughter!!!! (((Squeals of delight as she writes this))). YAHOO!!!!!

I wanted to thank you for allowing me to join you and Mike during this life changing experience…mourning the profound loss of one child while so desperately hoping and praying for the safe arrival of your new baby has been such an overwhelming, humbling experience.

This journey has been nothing less than an ordinary miracle and you Heather, are one of my new life heros!!! I watched from a not so close distance both you and Mike struggle and endure so much yet you both did so with such humour, relentless strength, determintion and with such raw emotions it was hard NOT to weep with and for you and cheer for you at the same time.

Each day, I live with an inexorable chronic neurological disease which causes me pain 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but coming to your site each day has taught me many lessons not only with astute determination but also with incredble courage.

So often I would sit in awe and absorb your extraordinary wit and your perspicacious out look on life. I do believe without doubt, I am a better person for having own you and I shall always be thankful for the lessons I have drawn from your life experiences.

Thanks again for sharing your joyful new!!! I for one cannot wait until next week!!!!!

Take Care,
Sincerely,
Your Friend,
Jenn

I think that is a beautiful belly!! I’ve been reading along with you since shortly after Maddie died. My daughter Malou was stillborn and now I’m pregnant with our second as well. I think we have the same due date. However, I am set to be induced next week. Could be interesting if we have babies on the same day! It’s been a long 9 months, I know, but we’re almost there. Hang in there.

Woo Hoo! And yeah that is one scary picture. You should send it to all the local high schools as possibly the best birth control ever.

The bath was my best friend in my 9th month (and beyond, thanks to a 3rd degree tear). Just not having to support the weight for a few minutes was heavenly.

4 days to full term. Wow. Just wow.

Heather, you’re a testament to maternal sacrifice. Not only for your loving tributes to Madeline, but for all of the comfort and convenience you’ve sacrificed to carry Binky this long. What lucky daughters you have. Congratulations.

SERIOUSLY- how can someone so tiny have a belly like that with no stretch marks?!?!?!?!? I’m in awe of you!!!!!! Did you use any special cream or oil? I tried every single one and still looked like a cat used my tummy as a scratching post! Are you just one of those annoying preggers that was blessed with good genes and doesn’t get a single stretchy mark? You have some explaining to do lady! ;)

Oh btw, inquiring minds want to know if that belly has officially reached bigger around than you are tall? How do you not fall over?!? ;)

All kidding aside, that belly is gorgeous and contains the most beautiful little blessing. I am so happy for you, and no one could deserve this victory baby more. We are all so proud of you and all you have done for both of your little girls.

When I got to the part that Binky might be coming next week, I squealed and clapped. At work. In a cube farm. With my computer in plain sight. Showing your ginormous belly.

Ha! It took a while to explain, but I think you will have a new reader or two before the day is done!. :o )

Wow the head on shot took me by surprise. It looks so big because you are small framed. It also looks big because your stomach is big!! I am so happy you made it to full term. I had my c-section at 39 weeks 2 days. I just would not go into labor AT ALL and I had the same type of contractions you had ALL of the time. It is strange how our bodies work. Can wait to see Binky!!!

I think you guys have done a wonderful job and I’m hoping for February 1st for Binky to make her appearance (unless she decides otherwise). Take care!

Heather-
I was told about your blog from a fellow DG. I was two years younger than you in school and share some of your pains, although our stories are slightly different. Having a child die before you is not natural and I’m hoping it’s the worst thing I ever have to experience. I was told that my first baby, Frances, had Potter’s Syndrome at 16 weeks gestation. We were hoping to find out the sex, but had to hear this heart wrenching news instead. The sydrome is very rare. Her kidney’s never developed, creating the absense of amniotic fluid and thus her lungs would not develop. We too decided not to terminate the baby and carried out a pregnancy we knew would have a bittersweet ending. This time was so difficult and scary, as I can image your pregnancy was. Not many people understood what we were going thru and it was painful to see other friends and family having healthy pregnancies. Frances was born aug 10th, 2008 at 32 wks and was ironically 3lbs 1oz, like Madeline. She tried to breath, but only lived for about 10 minutes. That time was unforgettable and so amazing. We took many pictures, held her for almost 2 hours and were able to bury her properly.
I admire your courage and dedication to sharing your story. I am pregnant too… 33 1/2 weeks and so grateful. Babies are gifts and should never be taken for granted.

Good luck to you. I wish your family all the best.

Holy Shit Heather, I thought I was big when i had my kids! Nico was 8lbs 16oz and my baby girl was 9lbs 5 oz. I had two C-Sections and to be honest, I would NEVER want to have a natural childbirth! C-Sections are phenominal (in my opinion!) Both kids, I went home the next day. I don’t even have a scar! It is right on the bikin line. My doc cut the same place so I woldn’t have two different scars. I wish you all the luck in the world. I said Feb. 4th is the date you will go. Hold me to it!

I am also almost 37 weeks and my husband doesn’t understand why I am so whiny this time (much more uncomfortable than the first time, no sleeping etc). So I told him that this weekend I was going to get a 40 lb bag of potatoes (weight adjusted proportionately to his starting body weight) and strap it to his belly for just a few hours and see how tired he gets carrying the extra weight around. He thinks I am joking :-)

Good luck with the home stretch. i am ready to be done but sadly my cervix is currently “not favorable” and Dr said “see you next week”. I said “really, you mean in the hospital after i have given birth?” He said “I am pretty confident you will not go into labor before our next appt, see you then”.
