Maybe It’s Too Much TV
I watch the Ellen Degeneres show just about every day. I think Ellen is hilarious and we’re almost always home when her show comes on (4pm here in LA) because Maddie usually wakes up from her nap around then. I’m not ashamed to say that I will sometimes plan our day around Ellen. It’s nice to know that I have a show to watch amongst hours of Baby Einstein, Wiggles, Sesame Street, and Mighty B. Since we spend most days in the house (away from germs), Ellen is the light at the end of the tunnel. Adult humor! (although, I highly recommend Mighty B. Amy Poehler, baby!)
Sometimes, though, I think, “Heather. It’s a nice day. Maybe you should get out of the house. Go for a walk. Take off your pajamas.” I start to notice that maybe I smell. So I take a shower during Maddie’s nap, and when she wakes up I say to her, “Maddie! Let’s go for a walk!!!” And she straight up throws a fit! I finally realized why – she can tell time. She knows when Ellen is on! You think I’m kidding, but I’m not. When she hears that theme music, “have a little fun today-ay, yeah yeah yeah!” she stops fussing, crawls toward the TV, and starts dancing. When Ellen is on TV, she looks back at me smiling like, “look mom! It’s Ellen! Yeah!”
She is so happy when Ellen is on TV…

…she even thinks Ellen is actually in the room with us…

…and then is super-pissed to discover that she, in fact, is just on the TV.

She kind of looks like she wants to punch me.
I don’t know what it is with Maddie and TV personalities. First Matt Lauer, now Ellen. Does this mean that she’s destined to be a TV personality? Or does it mean I let her watch too much TV?
That question is purely rhetorical.

Love it. At least it’s Ellen and not The Simpsons. When my oldest was a young un and heard that music, he’d come running to the living room shouting, “See See. See See.” That’s what we still call The Simpsons. Of course, now he’s into Family Guy. And he’s only 8. (Kidding. He’s 12. Still.)

The kid’s got taste, I love Ellen. My daughter is always napping while Ellen is on here but I think she would love it if she were awake (totally her kind of show!)

OMG. Hilarious! My kiddo loves watching Martha Stewart. She’ll ignore the tv most of the time, but if Martha’s on, she can’t turn away. At least Ellen is funny. Martha is a total prude.

Either Maddie is tiny or your TV is huuuuuge! Great pictures, though.
If you’re going to get a walk in, you might have to record the show and turn the volume down so she doesn’t hear the theme music as you try to get her ready!
