Fang

Madeline is teething HARD these days. Like, can’t sleep at night, cries and whimpers throughout the day, miserable teething. I never know what to make of this kid. She teethes FOR MONTHS, then stops, and suddenly a tooth will burst through without even a tear. Her bottom teeth popped through without any sign, and she got her third tooth a week before the latest madness started.

I wish I could say that her newest tooth is just as adorable as her two cute little bottom teeth but…I can’t. I’ve been eying her gums for the last month, and I was CERTAIN she’d get at least one of her two front teeth for Christmas. Instead, she got one of her eye teeth. You know – A FANG.

Fang!

This just won’t do! My mom thinks it’s cute, but that’s her job as a grandma. I mean, some people look at this face and think, “awwww.”

showing off her new tooth

I look at it and think, “VAMPIRE!!!” Maybe I watched too many every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or something. It freaks me out. ESPECIALLY since she has suddenly decided that biting mommy is the most fun thing in the world. It’s freaking creepy!!! I’m going to start wearing a crucifix and carry garlic and silver bullets around everywhere. Not that I would, ya know, use them or anything. It’s purely precautionary.

Now that I think about it, Maddie as a vampire makes a lot of sense. I mean, her skin is totally translucent, you can see every vein in her body! She’s Portuguese, she should be tan! If her other eye tooth comes in next and she becomes completely nocturnal, I’m going to sleep with one eye open.

That has got to be the cutest vampire in the universe!

Now you know what I meant when I said, once they get teeth their smile never looks quite the same. Her smile is still Maddie’s gorgeous smile… now with more bite!

Man! Just before I was going to post pictures of MY mini vampire, and you beat me to it. Plus, the reason I haven’t posted mine is that I couldn’t find the cord to my camera, and so I haven’t reviewed them thoroughly either, but I don’t think I have any pix that are quite as cutely fangy and vampirey as yours. So double fail for me.
But I wanted to say I love the pic. :)

My daughter, 14 months old in 3 days, has three teeth as well. However, she did avoid the vampire look by getting her bottom two and one top tooth. The funny thing for us is that she has had these three teeth for a month now and there is now sign that any more are coming! We are convinced she is going to look like a hillbilly forever.

BTW, Maddie is adorable, even as a vampire :)

for what it’s worth, the eye teeth are the most painful after the molars. So hey, if you made it through this, you’re money for the rest of ‘em. And I second the Hyland’s teething tablets. And if that doesn’t work, resort to tylenol or ibuprofen. One small dose, sometimes even half a dose did the trick for my kids on their worst nights.

After seeing three kids through teething, I can say that those eye teeth seem to cause the most pain. They are worse than the molars for some reason.

For the longest time, my son just had one top front tooth. It was hilarious.

Rum on the gums…yours not hers! What kind of mother did you take me for? ;) I think she’s an adorable little vampy. You should see if you can get her a contract with Stephen King or something.

Frozen washclothes are wonderful for teething babies – they numb and soothe at the same time.
