I Might Like This Parenting Thing

Teenage girls shouldn’t read this post because it will give them the wrong idea. But people, I realized something this week. My baby? Is fun.

Maddie Trump

Sure, she is going through this really REALLY annoying growth spurt that causes her to wake up every 90 minutes to eat, and she’s started to get just a little bit clingy which makes it hard to put her down and get stuff done, and don’t get me started on her refusal to nap. (Hmm, maybe teenagers SHOULD read this post).

Finally she sleeps

Besides all that really annoying stuff, she has turned into this intoxicating little force. She squeals with delight when Mike or I walk into a room. When she’s on her tummy, she looks around, rolls over, and smiles her big grin, totally pleased with herself. And, last night, I was laughing at Mike when Maddie suddenly started laughing, too. When I stopped laughing, she stopped laughing. When I started laughing again, she started laughing again. It was so awesome.

hello there batter

But, I think my favorite thing might be when she reaches for me, and when I take her, she snuggles into my neck and coos with contentment.

totally not into the game

Every day she gets a little bit bigger. We’ve officially moved her into Size 2 diapers (although size ones still fit), and some 3-6 month clothes are actually looking about right on her little frame. We’ll get her weight & height on Monday, when she reaches nine months old. She is rolling over like a champ now, and she is getting sooo close to sitting up without help. Then, before I know it, she’ll be crawling and we’ll have to baby-proof and holy cow, where is my little bitty girl?

I dunno about that

It’s amazing to watch her grow, to see her mind expand and sometimes explode with new knowledge. I want to drink in these moments with her before she’s too cool for me (although, I am very cool). Soon she’ll be able to crawl and then run (because there’s no way she’ll do something ordinary like walk), and while I’m looking forward to those milestones, right now I’m just happy that she looks at me with love.

welcome home mommy!

I can totally relate! I really can’t stand it when parents are so negative all the time about their babies. We all have our moments, but majority of the time, they are fun! Just can’t stop loving them to bits!

OMG Heather! I want her! I am booking a flight right now to LA and I’m coming to pick her up. In lieu, I will leave chocolate.

    What not good enough?

No matter how hard the hard times are, one smile can wash it all away.

I totally LOVE the baseball/bumbo picture!

So adorable. She is too cute. Shhh…don’t tell anyone, but I was a teenage mom, and although I’m not necessarily recommending it, it was fun, we had a ball with our little guy, and we’re still married almost 25 years later. I’m so happy for you that you’re having fun with your darling Maddie.

As the parent of a 10 month old, I’m right there with you. And as someone with about four seconds of experience more than you, all I can say is enjoy these non-mobile days. Bask in the glory of sitting her down and not finding her across the room chewing on a tennis shoe 1.7 seconds later. The kid that absolutely positively will not eat green beans will lick the sole of a show like it’s candy. Oh, but they are fun and so sweet. I kiss my girl about a thousand times a day because she’s just that wonderful.

There’s this total LIE out being perpetuated out there that babies younger than 8 or 9 months are FUN. They are not. Cute? Yes. Fun? NO.

Once they hit this age, though, totally freakin’ entertaining. And I’m glad you’re starting to enjoy it. :0)

Kisses to you and Maddie. And Mike!

I’m gonna pull my uber-experienced mommy card (you know, since I now have a TODDLER, how freaking crazy is that?!) and say…

    Girl, just wait.

My 17 month old is now walking and using real words, pulling me around to show me things, including me in his games, and running over to me to give me hugs and kisses just because.

    But then…

The other day when I was sitting on the floor folding clothes, he came up behind me, wrapped his arms around me and gave me a big hug, and said “Mommmeeee luuuuuv yoooouuuu!”

I started bawling and I swear to God my heart fell out of my chest and melted at his feet.

    Just wait…it only gets better!

Oh well, that feeling will go away with the first fight of the morning from the preTzelboys or when Mr. wakes up and makes me realize there are FOUR kids in this house, a dog, a cat, a rabid rabbit, and a guinea pig…opps and two gay parakeets. :)

Enjoy her now. She’ll be a teen soon. (Yes, it really does go that fast!)

I soo could have written this post…if I had your talent for writing. And Lucy was named Maddie. But you get my point. I am more in love with being a mom every dang day. And it’s so amazing, because it just keeps getting better. Wait till you get to 13 months. Me thinks my head my explode with the awesomeness. But word is that 18 months? Not so awesome. So at least we’ll get a chance to catch our breath and get sick of the little buggers.

Oh, and sorry I haven’t commented on your fabulous posts lately. It was doing this weird thing where I could see it in my reader, but when I clicked to go comment, your site wouldn’t load. ? Anyway.

I keep thinking “I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I can’t wait!” for a milestone to pass. Then after, I feel sad because I’ll never have that again. So, it’s always a bittersweet experience watching them grow and change, but wrap yourself up in her undeniable cuteness and go with it. I still want to take a bite out of her. I promise that’s the last time I’ll say that. Maybe. Probably not.
